Robert Turk is a man of many hats. No really, he has a whole closet full of them.
His childhood dream was to be a guest star on the Muppet Show, which naturally, through much teenaged angst and rebellion, led him to the theatrical arts. And while he only remained a theatre professional in Actor's Equity for seven years, that backstage beginning has shaped everything he has attempted since. For a time, he hand sculpted artistic leather masks and corsets and invented a line of loveable, handcrafted goblin dolls with his wife Rebecca. For a decade following that, he embodied the soul of a goblin in the guise of Gandersnitch the Goblin at festivals and conventions across the country. Between events, he wrote and published two books of short stories, a book of poetry, and an award-winning middle-grade adventure novel. Then, someone asked him to make a game.
So he did. A game about making stories. He called it Hogswallow, and people loved it. Robert realized that all of the various projects through his life were really just manifestations of a deep love of storytelling. And now, through game design, he could combine all of his efforts and skills (except maybe the corsets) into supporting stories that others could run with and make their own. As the owner of Wicked Clever Games, he creates and publishes professional, award-winning experiences that are quirky, offbeat, and inclusive, but ultimately just a whole lot of fun. His work includes Purgatory House, Starship Infernum, WyrdScouts, Fixers from the Floorboards, Zam! Pow! Spork!, Goblonia, and Our Woodland Gods. With many many more on the horizon.
But ever still a theatre person, you might occasionally catch him putting on a fancy hat, donning a dragon skin coat, hoisting a crystal headed cane, and stepping back into his own twisted imagination to bring forth laughter and love among the festival crowds. Or just signing books with a wry and friendly smile, because he knows that his worlds of adventure are about to be yours to love and to share.us.
Alyssa R. Spencer is an illustrator, writer, and maker of small things.
She grew up tumbling down grassy hillsides, filling her pockets with acorns, reading piles and piles of books, and making lots of little things from objects otherwise intended for the bins. Truly, not much has changed.
Her work focuses on cozy nature and folklore with themes of fantasy, friendship, and exploration. World-building and storytelling are her favorite self indulgences.
